Group Photographs
If large group photographs are required, think about when to take them. At the church, everyone is a captive audience as they do not leave before the Bridal party, but if the space available is not suited to groups of fifty, the reception venue usually has the better settings. However, once at the reception, guests have a habit of disappearing and there has been the situation of a group of fifty people waiting for Aunty Jill to reappear from the loos. Ushers can be handy here, especially if they have a military background or have been used to herding sheep in their work environment as is it is not good practice for the photographer to bellow out another request for the Brides mum to come forward for a photograph. I usually suggest to split the groups into Bride and Grooms family first, then the rest of the guests as a second shot as a group of 120 people can be just a lot of dots on the photograph, but it is just a suggestion
The Bride at Home
A nice idea, but remember that the Bride should be ready about an hour before the start of the service so the photographer can get to the church about one half hour before it all begins to capture the groom, best man and ushers as they enter the church. Some weddings cater solely for the Bride and the Groom is just a bolt-on when it comes to the photographs (remember who pays for the day) but it is nice to balance the families and give each equal coverage.
The Photographer
Probably a nice chap, but he has an awful lot of work to do in a short space of time, so take his advice if you can as he has attended more weddings than he cares to remember and has become a professional in time and motion studies at such events, so bear in mind his opinion.
